The Venue

The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, affectionately known as "The Schnitz," is a historic landmark in the heart of Portland’s Cultural District. Originally opened in 1928 as a grand movie palace called the Paramount Theatre, it is the last surviving historic theater on Broadway. The venue is instantly recognizable by its iconic 65-foot "Portland" neon marquee. Inside, the hall features breathtaking Italian Renaissance architecture, complete with ornate plasterwork, crystal chandeliers, and a grand lobby that preserves the elegance of the vaudeville era. While it serves as a home for symphonies and lectures, the hall is also a premier stop for world-class comedy. The stage has hosted legendary performers and modern stars alike, including Jerry Seinfeld, Ali Wong, and Anthony Jeselnik. For comedy fans, the venue offers a unique combination of historic grandeur and an inviting atmosphere, making it a prestigious destination for top-tier stand-up in the Pacific Northwest.
